RECONNECT

We invite sculptors, artists and visual creatives to join in the 18th edition of the South Bohemian Sculpture Festival.

The Art in the City Festival, which for 17 years has been reviving the public space of České Budějovice and other South Bohemian towns with contemporary art, has become an essential part of the cultural life of the region. This project, which the registered association Art in the City has long organised, serves as a platform for dialogue between contemporary art, the urban environment and the local community. Each edition brings unique artworks and site-specific installations that not only aesthetically enrich the urban space, but also reflect on current themes that resonate with both local history and global societal challenges.

The central theme chosen for 2025 is Reconnect. The theme is inspired not only by the 760th anniversary of the founding of České Budějovice, but also by the broader need to return to our roots – to history, culture and nature. At a time when technological progress and globalisation often lead to a sense of uprootedness and loss of social or cultural anchorage, the festival aims to rediscover these lost connections. 

Reconnect thus invites artists to reflect through their work on the ways in which we as individuals and as a society can reconnect to nature, history and cultural heritage, not only in the context of the past but also within our contemporary identity.

Festival theme – „Reconnect“

Contemporary society often finds itself in a collision between the fast pace of life driven by technological innovation and the need to slow down and return to the core values that connect us to nature and our cultural history. The Reconnect theme focuses on an artistic reflection of this phenomenon. The aim is to create a space for reflection on how modern man can find a balance again between technological advances and the need to remain anchored in cultural and natural values.

Join us and together let’s revive the public space of the towns and villages of the South Bohemia Region!

Festival information and dates: 

The festival will take place in České Budějovice and other towns and villages of the South Bohemia Region; the specific towns and villages involved will also be known by the end of February 2025.

• 26 May – 3 June 2025 – transport and installation of selected works
• 5 June 2025 – opening ceremony in České Budějovice
• 6 June – 30 September 2025 – festival duration
• 1 – 15 October 2025 – de-installation and transport of the works
