About the Festival

Art in the City has entered its 18th year and thus reached adulthood. This „child,“ which I „conceived“ right after finishing art school together with my
classmates Jakub Flejšar, Světlana Jelenová, Martin Rajčan and the head
of the city‘s culture department Iva Sedláková, has become an integral part of the region‘s cultural life.

This year‘s edition carries the subtitle Reconnect. Perhaps it‘s also a look back to cultural roots and nature, as I feel that as a society and as individuals, we are somewhat disconnecting from the „essence“ and losing ourselves in the artificial world we have created.

Art in the City is entering the streets of our cities for the eighteenth time and has perhaps already become a small tradition, part of summer. Just like every year, this time too the exhibited works will probably irritate and annoy some, entertain others, and perhaps give someone space for reflection, contemplation, or serve as a topic for dialogue. And that is actually its essence – to bring emotions into an otherwise rationally designed urban environment.

So enjoy this 18th dose of sculptures and artistic interventions in the public spaces of České Budějovice, Veselí nad Lužnicí, Hluboká nad Vltavou, and Vodňany.

Have a beautiful summer with Art in the City
